Our Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

SITUATION:

BOND provided preconstruction planning and construction management services for South Shore Hospital’s pharmacy renovation project. The renovation included the expansion and upgrade to the existing pharmacy to comply with USP 800 requirements and regulations in relation to pharmacy administration and support spaces. The scope of work included new clean rooms, compounding hoods, security, HVAC, electrical and plumbing.

CHALLENGES:

  • Construction within occupied operational pharmacy while replacing major HVAC equipment that serviced the area
  • Installing a proprietary clean room enclosure and related coordination

SOLUTIONS:

  • Designed, procured and installed a temporary air handling unit as part of an early enabling phase
  • Organized pre-installation coordination meetings to clarify scope and finalize details
  • A custom “build clean protocol” was developed for the work

RESULTS:

  • Planned switch over to the final new HVAC services
  • Minimized installation time and the number of workers and tools within the clean room environment
  • The creation and implementation of the “build clean protocol” insured that the pharmacy production areas were able to be put on line in an expedited fashion
