Our Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

SITUATION:

BOND provided construction management services for Harvard University’s new graduate student residence hall, located on the Charles River. The 177,000 sf LEED Gold facility includes 151 apartment style units, an underground parking facility, a workout room, meeting and study rooms, and a laundry facility.

CHALLENGES:

  • Ensuring the 100-year-old culvert sewer line bisecting the site remained intact
  • Construction of 63,000 SF underground parking facility beneath the building
  • Construction near Charles River

SOLUTIONS:

  • Excavate earth support elements around the masonry sewer line
  • Utilization of in-house BIM and laser technology to coordinate MEP systems
  • Dewatered the site using a frac tank

RESULTS:

  • Project awarded the Harleston Parker Medal in 2011 for “the most beautiful building/structure built in metro Boston
  • Achieved LEED Gold certification
  • Building now houses the Graduate Commons Program, an interdisciplinary program for the graduate community
