Our Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Situation:

The Stamford Reliability Project spans 1.5 miles across downtown Stamford, Connecticut, providing a reliable electric power source to meet the growing needs of the surrounding communities. To ensure the delivery of this transmission project, BOND was chosen to install a complete and operable 115-kV cable duct system. This system extends between the Glenbrook Substation on Lincoln Avenue and the South End Substation in Stamford, CT.

Challenges:

  • Located in a densely-populated, highly urban area, including residential neighborhoods and businesses
  • Work performed within a high water table
  • Site contained congested underground utilities
  • Scheduling and sequencing work in off-peak hours
  • Site contained significant amount of ledge
  • Job required challenging pipe jacking under Amtrak Metro railroad line

Solutions:

  • Enforcement of strict communication protocols to minimize disruption to local communities
  • Designed and utilized in-line filter system to speed up dewatering operations and eliminate the need for frack tanks
  • Worked closely with Eversource to develop mitigation strategies to allow most efficient and productive construction methods to meet and exceed the fast track schedule

Results:

  • Stamford area customers have a reliable electrical power supply to meet their growing energy needs
  • The area’s electric grid conforms to national and regional reliability standards
  • The civil infrastructure was turned over to Eversources’ cable vendors before the prescribed milestones; as a result the entire project was energized and came into service as originally scheduled
