Description:
Harvard Law School requested a fast-track analysis of energy use, and project identification for an upcoming budgeting cycle. The BOND team focused on utility billing history related to electricity and domestic potable water for five buildings comprising 467,000 sf of office, library, dormitory, and classroom space. (45 wds)

Challenge/Situation:
The project required timely review and analysis of utility use and consumption, comparisons against industry norms, establishment of a benchmark to monitor future performance, the identification of opportunities and project estimates, and identification of available project funding and rebate programs.

Solution/Action:
The utility assessment project collected and analyzed three years of utility cost and consumption data concentrating on three main areas: mechanical/electrical improvements, operating protocols, and maintenance practices. Interim progress meetings with key stakeholders ensured timely data/information transfer and development of a suitable reporting format for university staff.

Benefit/Result :
Benefits included identification of key staff requirements for future utility optimization, 14 utility projects with < 5 year ROI, Rebate and Harvard Green Campus program coordination and O&M practice recommendations.
