Dana Farber Cancer Institute: O&M Ready
Facts:
Size: 275,000 sf
Date: 2008 - 2009
Description:
Dana Farber Cancer Institute is building a new 13-story, 275,000 square foot, state-of-the-art patient care and clinical research building. As an unique industry process, DFCI engaged BOND to represent the facility manager’s interests and requirements during the design, construction and turnover phases.
Challenge/Situation:
DFCI’s Facilities Department has a newly developed set of unique project turnover requirements that supports their computerized maintenance and asset management programs. There was a need to ensure that these strict requirements were not only incorporated into the design documents, but also monitored during the construction and turnover phases.
Solution/Action:
BOND is representing the Facilities Department as its “O&M Ready Agent” throughout the 3-year design and construction phase developing and monitoring technical specifications focusing in areas such as: equipment naming conventions for design, shop drawings and labels; preventive maintenance program information turnover; on-site temporary equipment storage requirements; and warranty phase management.
Benefit/Result :
Serving as the DFCI Facilities Department representative ensures representation throughout the project, a custom PM program developed to meet the owner’s maintenance program needs and naming conventions consistent with all Facilities department documents. In summary, this process provides a smoother transition from construction to the O&M phase.
