TOUCH A TRUCK
Let’s face it; in the construction industry we really view trucks as tools of the trade. While having the latest in technology and equipment helps us to get the job done faster and more efficiently—it rarely puts a smile on our face that spans from ear to ear.
BOND was proud to take part in the “Touch-A-Truck” charity event recently to benefit the Franciscan Hospital for Children and the Simon Youth Foundation. While toy trucks provide children with endless amusement, they bear no comparison to the real thing! With no shortage of construction trucks here at BOND, we were thrilled to share a CAT excavator with the children who flocked to the Arsenal Mall in Watertown to get a close up look at that and a variety of other trucks.
Touch-A-Truck was a unique, family-oriented one-day event, featuring trucks and cars to touch, climb on and take pictures alongside. The outdoor event provided truck enthusiasts of all ages with over twenty different trucks including an ambulance, police car, motorcycles, dump trucks, Postal Service truck, concrete truck heavy hauler, 18 wheeler, Tootsie Roll truck, dumpster truck, limo bus, dump truck, street sweeper, front end loader and an excavator.
The parking lot was filled with hundreds of smiling children as horns were honking and camera-ready parents stood close by. It was refreshing to see how exciting the equipment we use everyday was for the children. Not only were the kids eager to climb up into the trucks, but curious as to what they did, how they worked and "what happens if I push this button?" BOND employees spent the afternoon helping kids in and out of the excavator, explaining what their job entails and how they safely use the machinery on our job sites.
In addition to the trucks, the event offered entertainment for the whole family. For guests who weren’t quite ready to climb up into the driver seat, there were door prizes, a craft table, face painting, a moon bounce, concessions, and the chance to have photos taken with the Boston Celtics 2007-2008 Championship Trophy.
To see all the smiles on the kids faces that day was very rewarding. Just as exciting was the fact that over 600 visitors came out for the event, and over $3000 was raised for Franciscan Hospital for Children and the Simon Youth Foundation.
It was a great event for the community and we are happy to have been part of it.
