CASE STUDY:
Spectra Energy: Gas Line Installation
Facts:
Type of Work: Gas Line Installation
Completed: 2009
Engineer: Spectra Energy
Description:
BOND installed 2.5 miles of 14-inch underground gas piping in a heavily travelled area of Medford and Somerville, MA to increase reliability to the Greater Boston Area.
Challenge/Situation:
The project route is located on several congested and busy streets in two large urban cities. Trenching and installing large diameter welded pipe through heavily travelled business districts while keeping crews productive and the work environment safe was a key challenge.
Solution/Action:
This project required careful planning and designation of construction routes. We worked with city officials and abutters to coordinate business operations and varying work hours in the work zones. BOND conducted work both days and nights for specific work areas with restricted hours while pipe fabrication was done off-site.
Benefit/Result:
By splitting the work force into specific crews working during optimum times, we were able to increase production and meet or exceed weekly pipe installation goals.
