CASE STUDY:
Neiman Marcus: Natick Collection Retail Center
Facts:
Size: 100,000 sf
Date: Completed 2009
Description:
BOND was engaged to build an unusual and unique 100,000 SF store for Neiman Marcus in the Natick Collection retail center. The most striking element of the project is an undulating two-story high stainless steel exterior that is meant to represent a silk scarf or dress in multiple hues of bronze, champagne and silver. The interior of the store is luxurious, in keeping with other NM specialty stores.
Challenge/Situation:
Coordination of structural steel with multi-colored architectural stainless steel panels was a major challenge; this required extensive vendor and subcontractor management.
Solution/Action:
Early coordination with the panel vendor assured seamless harmonization with the structural steel vendor. Three-dimensional spatial coordinates were furnished in electronic format, and then the structural steel fabricator used this information to fabricate bearing seats.
Benefit/Result:
Proactive planning for the interface between the structural members and stainless steel panels meant that the different colored ribbons appeared flawless.
