Located near many of the world’s leading hospitals AstraZeneca Hope Lodge provides free temporary housing for cancer patients and their families. 40 suites provide all amenities in a comforting environment, combining private quarters and communal spaces set in a historic restored facility. The Hope Lodge developed as a non-toxic environment; the result was receipt of a LEED Gold certification.

Challenge/Situation:
Tight urban site, complex foundations. Historic elements preserved in former hospital.

Solution/Action:
Multiple earth retention systems required. Exterior and interior elements removed and reinstalled

Benefit/Result:
The carefully restored historic façade and interior finishes provide a warm and inviting setting; reuse of the historic elements contributed to LEED Gold certification and a Preservation Achievement Award from the Boston Preservation Alliance.
